Follow these steps to set up your UMA account, verify your identity, and connect your bank so you can start sending and receiving money. The steps vary slightly depending on your country — select your region below.
⚠️ Your account must be verified to send or receive money. We recommend completing identity verification during setup.
Step 1: Choose Your Language
- Visit app.uma.money.
- Click the globe icon in the top-right corner (next to Get UMA).
- From the dropdown, select your preferred language.
Step 2: Start Your Registration
- Click Get UMA in the top-right corner.
- Select your country and click Get Started.
Step 3: Verify Your Phone Number
- Enter your mobile number and select the correct country code from the dropdown.
- Click Continue.
- You'll receive a 6-digit verification code via SMS. Enter it and click Submit.
Step 4: Select Your Bank Country
- Choose the country where your bank is located.
- Click Continue.
Step 5: Create Your Account Credentials
- Enter your first and last name as shown on your ID.
- Provide your email address and create a password.
- Click Continue.
Step 6: Create Your UMA Address
- Choose your UMA address — this is your unique identifier for sending and receiving money (e.g.,
$yourname@uma.money). - If your preferred name is already taken, try a variation and click Continue.
Step 7: Verify Your Email
- Click Open email app to go to your inbox.
- Open the verification email from UMA and click the verification link.
- Return to UMA and select Agree and continue.
Step 8: Verify Your Identity
All users are required to complete identity verification before sending or receiving funds. The exact documents required may vary by region — see the Verification & Identity section for full details.
- Click Verify identity & connect bank (or Continue) to begin.
- Review and agree to the terms by clicking Agree and continue.
- Confirm your personal details: nationality, date of birth, citizenship, country of residence, and address.
- Select the type and issuing country of your identity document.
- Follow the prompts to complete document and selfie verification. You may be asked to scan a QR code or continue on your mobile device.
Step 9: Connect Your Bank Account
After identity verification, you'll be prompted to connect your bank account. The method used will depend on your country — follow the on-screen instructions and enter your bank details as directed.
Common methods include:
- Bank login (e.g., US) — You'll be guided through a secure third-party connection to sign in with your online banking credentials. Your bank must support instant payment rails to be eligible.
- Bank account number (e.g., CLABE for Mexico, IBAN for European countries) — You'll be asked to enter your local bank account identifier. Double-check the number carefully before continuing to ensure deposits are successful.
- Other regional methods — Depending on your country, additional options may be presented during setup.
⚠️ UMA supports instant payments only. Your bank or payment account must support instant payment rails in your region. If your bank or country does not appear as an option during setup, it may not be supported yet. Check uma.money for the latest list of supported countries, or submit a support ticket if you have questions about availability in your region.
Step 10: You're All Set!
UMA will verify your information — this typically takes about 30 seconds, but may take longer in some cases. If there's a delay, you'll receive a notification once verification is complete.
Once verified, your UMA account is ready to use. You can now send and receive money instantly.
